Gareth Littler - C4CB
"I will never remove these restrictions on [allowing Christian] broadcasting.' - David Mellor
'Today there is a Christian broadcasting industry.' Gareth Littler

Chris Cole – God TV
What legacy are we leaving? We need to empower and engage in a dialogue 'to turn the hearts of the fathers to their children and the hearts of the children to their fathers... to govern with a father's heart that listens to youth so that our young people know they have been heard.'

Jonathan Bellamy – Cross Rhythms
'Media is such an important gateway [to our nation] to shape our thinking and influence or minds.' We partner with the local church. It is not just about media being an end in itself. 'Our challenge is are we walking with the Lord, are we going deeper with him. Do we know our God.'

Harvey Thomas – FEB
As Christians in the real world where Christians are in a minority we still tend to speak as though everybody is a believer. We are telling so much of the story to our own people.

Andrew Graystone – CMC
We will be saturated in on-line media. This will transform the nature of our relationships, the way we communicate, even the way we understand truth. If the Christian story is to be told it will have to be told in the digital environment. It's a whole new broadcasting world.' You can't transform the culture by staying removed from it. We are in the culture. Let's stay in it and transform it for the glory of God.'

Rev Dr Jonathan Oloyede - GDoP
Some of us are going to have to jump off cliffs and live dangerously in this world.
The church needs to increase its connectivity, its communications, its bonds with itselves. We need to create mergers and loose some of the brands we have. We need to lose definition to get definition. The Lord will ask whole organisations to come together. Stop having committee meetings. Start having prayer meetings. Then do what God says should be done.

Rt Rev James Jones – Bishop of Liverpool
The patron saint of Broadcasting should be Nathaniel: 'an Israelite in whom there is no guile, no snare or manipulation.'

Chip K – Bandwithnoname / Innervation Trust
You can try to be famous, or you can realise you are already great.

Gary Guillon – Timemaker Systems
Do we love one another in the media world? Are we one body? Do we share what we have to acheive His aims. Or do we build the same as everyone else because we need to own or control things? What can we do for each other, to help birth the vision God has given you?

Rory Springthorpe - Vivid Broadcast
We are called to a revolutionary war using only the weapons of faith, hope and love. There is a job to be done getting alongside people. We can't afford for there to be a gap between the Chip Ks and the production companies. How can we link up the creatives and the production companies? How can we be held accountable? We need to be vulnerable and honest with each other - about our failures as well as our successes. All over this country young people are looking for people to lead them. How are we leading? Are we communicating to the younger guys our vision, so that they can say 'I want to fight for that!' Are we standing for what we believe in?

Michael Cassidy - AfricaEnterprise
I believe this concern about the next generation, the passing the baton, is indeed a real God concern. 'Teach the children so the next generation might know him.' Think all the time about the next generation: teaching, training, discipling and bringing them on.

Graham Spencer – Cloak Productions / God TV
Who is the voice in Britain at the moment? God raise up people with voices. As broadcasters we need to be looking for them.

Tim Finch – OCM Films
We are to take ground and move forward. One generation will commend your works to another. It will commend your mighty acts. In the spirit we have come here to say that Christians will be able to say the truth of God in media city. Eagles - look sideways. Stretch our your hands and run together.

Chris Cole – God TV
God is taking us in the land of promise - that's why it's a battle. I believe CBC is a God idea. It is a contention.

Gareth Littler

 ABOUT CBC08

LEARNING FROM HISTORY : EMBRACING THE FUTURE

You've no doubt heard the analogy of the turtle sitting on top of the fencepost... he didn't get there on his own.  He had some help and that is true of every aspect of our personal, professional and spiritual lives: We got where we are with the help of those who went before us. This is certainly true of Christian broadcasting in the UK. We owe a huge debt of gratitude to those who paved the way for the Christian Broadcasting industry that we have today.

With this in mind, part of the change within CBC is to shift its focus to younger generations involved in and desiring to be involved in media. We have a legacy of trailblazers who have helped establish Christian media in this country and there is much to learn from the generation who fought the fight to allow independent Christian broadcasting in the UK. Equally there is much that the younger generation can teach us and contribute to this ever changing digital scene. As a result, CBC08 was themed ‘Generation Speaks to Generation – Learning from History : Embracing the Future’.

The conference focused upon a young generation providing, we believe, a top-notch spiritual infusion of inspiration for all. Contributors and attendees sought to envision and encourage the younger generation to forge ahead in their Christian calling, as you saw from the soundbites from each speaker during the conference outlined above.

The speakers were from both the older generation and the younger generation. CBC is passionate about this issue – many of those who founded CBC are trailblazers in the media scene.  We wanted to focus on this and honour Rob Frost and his legacy by walking beside the next generation of Christians in the fast-moving and changing world of Media, while learning (hopefully) from some of those long established in media (who, God willing, have a lot of life left in them yet!).

The Media Awards remit is to promote and reward excellence in Christian broadcasting/publishing/ programming on Christian and secular media platforms. Entries for the awards are invited and marketed to a wide range of media producers and broadcasters. The entries are judged by notable individuals in the media scene on quality and Christian content. There were some new categories this year specifically aimed at youth programming and broadcasting. The Awards Ceremony was challenging due to technical difficulties, and unforeseen circumstances caused numerous hitches... however, we were delighted to honour and award those who had produced outstanding programming containing Christian themes.

Our speakers were: Rt Rev James Jones (Bishop of Liverpool); Rev Jonathan Oloyede (Glory House / Global Day of Prayer); Chip K (bandwithnoname / God TV); Chris Cole (UK Director God TV); Jon Bellamy (CEO Cross Rhythms); Andrew Graystone (CEO Churches Media Council); Tim Finch (OCM Films Ltd); Rory Springthorpe (Vivid Broadcast); Gary Guillon (Timemaker Systems Ltd); Jeremy Higham (CFM Trust).

For those who joined us, we celebrated our wonderful God and the powerful work of the Holy Spirit at CBC08 21st and 22nd November, 2008 at the vibrant World Harvest Bible Church planted in April 1997 right at the centre of what would be the new Media City in Manchester.  Those dynamic church pioneers obeyed God's prompting, knowing nothing of the plans for the BBC move to that area along with many other Media organisations. We were a prayerful presence and encouragement at the heart of what God is doing, having done a prayerwalk in the area in preparation for what is going to happen in Media City.  God is the One who guides and directs and gives us, old and young, a future and a hope in our lives and in our Media calling. See you next year!
