CBC MEDIA AWARDS FEBRUARY 2010
CATEGORY A Best Christian Ministry Programme
Gold BBC Radio Cumbria Sunday Breakfast Show - Virtual Service
Radio Cumbria's excellent virtual service went out in response to a particularly severe crisis as the region was struck by appalling floods. It was an excellent blend of music and prayer, engaged the listener immediately. It was thought-provoking and drew in the people taking part in this 'virtual' experience as the community struggled through a very difficult time. It would have been impossible for the Cumbria to get to church and this was excellent church with no walls.
Silver Nationwide Christian Trust - Living Word - Bible Study - The Lord's Prayer
Presenter: Canon Michael Cole Very good quality programming on such a familiar theme as the Lord's Prayer where it is easy to miss the profound depths of Jesus' response to his disciples request to teach them to pray. Well done.
Highly Commended - BBC Radio Wales - Celebration - St John's Methodist Church, Llandudno
A thoroughly good broadcast service from a lovely church in Wales. Heartwarming.

Silver BBC Radio Cumbria "Losing our Religion?"
Producer/Presenter: Graham Moss. A creatively different Good Friday story with excellent connection with the man in the street. Once again, it draws you in and makes you want to listen to the end. Strong topicality, local feel, earthing it in the community. Brave questions about faith in that particular area.
Bronze BBC Radio Wales All Things Considered - Jo Berry and Pat Magee
Producer: Lisa Hawkins, Presenter: Roy Jenkins. Everybody in Britain remembers the Brighton bomb. Jo Berry has more reason than most to remember. Her father, Sir Anthony Berry, was killed in the explosion. This programme is an excellent interview with her and Pat Magee who planted the bomb and packs a real punch in how to talk forgiveness for such heinous crimes.

CBC Heart Award - BBC Radio Wales - Good Friday Meditation - 'His Love Endures for Ever'
Producer: Sian Baker and Contributor: Sandra Harnisch-Lacey (the late Rob Lacey’s wife). The story of Rob Lacey's marriage, cancer diagnosis, birth of his two children and death told by his wife. A powerful programme on a very emotional subject, sensitively done and challenging the notion that God's blessing necessarily lies in long life. A subtle mix of the physical and the spiritual, making very real the joy of heaven and highlighting the fact that because of Jesus' death on the Cross that first Good Friday, after death comes Resurrection. Lovely. Deceptively simple.

The music added greatly to the overall atmosphere of the piece.

CATEGORY P - PODCAST – AUDIO
Joint Gold: Let Us Pod: ‘The Budgerigar and the Prisoner’ and ‘Family Reunited’
I loved the way that both of these features took people who are usually marginalised by society, and humanised them by simply letting them speak for themselves: a prison inmate in the first one, and a family of asylum seekers in the second. Simple but effective, and both very moving.
Silver: A Christmas Robin
A pleasant, easy listen, with great use of sound effects and outdoor recording that made you feel as if you were out in a field bird-watching. The way in which it combined a natural history lesson with the Christmas message and spiritual reflection is also commendable. Nice music too.

Well thought through, imaginative and it speaks loudly of hours and hours of dedicated work.

Funny, cute, educational and interesting – looking at the world through the eyes of child. Unusual and brave, loved the voicepops from the street. Our eyes were opened to the fact that we spend £710m on chocolate at Easter! An appealing ‘cool’ programme that you warm to.

Inspiring and tear-jerking story of the life and death of the famous motocross star Jeremy Lusk. Simply compulsive viewing, this story is told in a way that keeps you hooked, interested and hanging on every word. It is exciting that a programme of this calibre and quality exists telling real life stories in a culturally relevant and edgy way. If the other programmes in this series is of similar quality, then we can expect many many thousands of young people (and others!) meeting God in a real way. This story speaks powerfully of how a tragic death can result in such hope and inspiration. This programme smashes the mould.
