CBC has a Statement of Faith, which is incorporated in its Constitution. Subject to the requirements of the Constitution, CBC asks all members to subscribe to this Statement of Faith or as an alternative members may declare their acceptance of the Apostles’ Creed or the Nicene Creed.

Membership of CBC includes individuals involved professionally in broadcasting and related matters, and others who are merely supporters or interested. Our Code of Ethics applies mainly to the former, but CBC asks that all members should observe the spirit of the Code in so far as it applies to them. 
 
THE CBC STATEMENT OF FAITH

• The members of Christian Broadcasting Council believe:
• In one God, Creator of all things and eternally existing in a Trinity of persons, Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
• In man’s fallen and sinful condition and his need for personal forgiveness.
• Our Lord Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, was conceived by the Holy Spirit and was born of the Virgin Mary. “The Word was made flesh and dwelt among us”.
• In the perfect sinless life of Christ on earth, in His substitutionary and atoning death on the cross.
• In the bodily resurrection of Christ on the third day and His ascension to the right hand of the Father who has given Him all power in heaven and on earth.
• That true repentance and faith in The Lord Jesus Christ alone are essential for the salvation of sinful man and there is no other way to God except through Him.
• In the second coming of the Lord Jesus Christ, with power and great glory to judge the living and the dead, those that are lost unto eternal punishment and those that are saved in Christ unto eternal life.
• In the present ministry of the Holy Spirit by Whose regeneration Christians are indwelt and by Whom they are enabled to love, worship and serve the Lord Jesus Christ in the world.
• That the Holy Bible was verbally inspired by God without error as originally given and is the supreme and final authority on all matters of faith and conduct.
• In the unity of the Church universal, made up of the company of born again believers, otherwise known as the Body of which Christ is the Head.

Introduction

The Christian Broadcasting Council of the United Kingdom (CBC) is a charitable body that seeks to represent and provide an independent, neutral meeting place for the Christian Media Industry. Its main purposes are to stimulate and promote the knowledge of the Christian faith and the propagation of the Gospel of Jesus Christ through the broadcasting media, to encourage the highest standards of Christian media communication, and to support and develop the knowledge and standards of all those who undertake these activities.

Membership of CBC includes individuals involved professionally in broadcasting and related matters, and others who are merely supporters or interested. This Code of Ethics applies mainly to the former, but all members should observe the spirit of the Code in so far as it applies to them.

All members should endeavour to conform to the following Code and to assist CBC in implementing the Code. Contravention of the Code may lead to disciplinary action, at the discretion of CBC, including suspension and/or expulsion from CBC.

1. Conduct

All members undertake to:

1.1 Accept CBC’s statement of faith which is incorporated in its Constitution. Subject to the requirements of the Constitution, as an alternative members may declare their acceptance of the Apostles’ Creed or the Nicene Creed.

1.2 Ensure so far as possible that their conduct and media output, including programming, publishing and advertising, do not conflict with this Code including the above statement or Creeds.

1.3 Conduct themselves with integrity, honesty and kindness.

1.4 Respect the dignity of their profession where applicable and ensure that their actions enhance the reputation of themselves and the CBC.

1.5 Comply within any of their organisations with all applicable laws and regulations (including civil, charity, international and broadcasting laws and programme content regulations).

1.6 Avoid poor practice, professional misconduct and/or criminal offence.

1.7 Declare to the CBC Board of Trustees all Court judgments or relevant rulings, with which they are or have been involved in, as a company director or charity trustee.

1.8 Declare any relevant interests and avoid conflicts of interest unless such conflicts of interest have the consent of all the parties concerned after full disclosure of the facts.

1.9 Not disclose or make use of information obtained in confidence from their employers or any other source without prior express consent.

1.10 Adhere to the principle that all information created by, or on behalf of, an organisation is the property of that organisation and shall not be transferred or utilised except on behalf of that organisation.

1.11 Ensure that all monies received are properly accounted for and used only for the purposes for which they are intended.

1.12 Avoid acting in a manner inconsistent with this Code.

1.13 Endeavour to involve professional as well as spiritual arbitration to resolve any issues, in order to avoid legal action, in the event of disputes.

2. Practice

Members involved on a professional or business level are expected to:

2.1 Apply best business practice, honouring agreements with suppliers, employees and customers.

2.2 Adhere to human resource and employment laws (including contracts of employment, PAYE, overtime etc) and help create good working environments with mutual respect within CBC.

2.3 Seek to ensure that all CBC employees have the appropriate levels of competence for the effective discharge of their duties.

3. Competence

Members are expected to:

3.1 Cultivate strategies to build relationships with other members of CBC, and organisations involved in the Christian Media Industry, promote and develop the Industry as a whole, while recognising individual diversity, with the common purpose of loving and serving God.

3.2 Strive to sustain a high level of competence in all aspects of broadcasting, production, publishing, marketing, creative writing, administration and management for the development of the Christian Media Industry.

4. Finance

(A) Members involved on a professional or business level are expected to:

4(A).1 Ensure compliance by CBC with all legal and accounting requirements including establishing an accounting system with annual reports including accounts, and where applicable, appoint a qualified accountant to oversee end of year accounts, and an external auditor where turnover reaches the relevant level under charity law.

4(A).2 Ensure commitment by CBC to put in writing all agreements involving goods and services with a financial value exceeding £500.

4(A).3 In relation to applicants for membership, require them to inform CBC of any previous history of insolvency or debt related problems. Membership will then be at the discretion of CBC Trustees, in confidence.

(B) Members shall inform CBC immediately in the event of their insolvency or receivership and if requested to do so by CBC shall stand down from CBC membership.

5. Revision of Code

The CBC Board of Trustees may update or vary this Code, from time to time, to reflect changing media industry needs and circumstances.
